Maldives national museum information. The maldives national museum was opened for public display on the national day 1 rabeeul awwal 1372 ah 19th november 1952. It aims at instilling patriotic feelings in the citizens of maldives. The purpose of setting up the museum was to preserve the history of maldives and to invoke the patriotic feelings of people.
It houses several well kept artefacts of maldivian culture including coins royal antiques furniture items of clothing coins embellishments and armaments. Sultan park is itself a part of sultan palace. The museum exhibits a rather significant collection of historical artifacts and royal antiquities ranging from the buddhist era to muslim monarchs.

The building was presented to the maldives by the chinese government on 10 july 2010 but was officially opened and declared as the national museum two weeks later on maldives independence day 26 july 2010.
